Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside”; after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent”
Scenario
Charles, a retiree, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad for a private detective and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a nursing home.
something similar to the tone: Our show essentially contributes to that feeling of wanting to call our mothers?
Say: “The Mole Agent”; the documentary is powerful because it makes people feel something remarkably similar, regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very reductive way, like, “I have to call my mom, I have tried to do”.
Remake of El agente topo (2020)
I think a lot of fiction naturally aims to make you think something like, “It was an honor to be a part of these fictional characters’ lives.” This show undoubtedly accomplishes that goal.
Props to all departments involved
Even those who come for the mystery, which makes them less focused on it, should be captivated by the humanity that comes through not only in the writing, but also in the performances of all the actors.
